After a successful road trip to the west coast, their first of the season, the Rampage finally return to home ice for just the second time in the first 3+ weeks of the season. Tonight’s opponent is a familiar one as the Chicago Wolves come in for the first of two this weekend in San Antonio. The Wolves currently sit atop the Central Division with a 5-1-0-1 record and boast the league’s second best offense, scoring 4 goals per game. Only Texas has scored more per game in the AHL.

Once again, the game could come down to Special Teams as the Wolves are in the top 10 on both the power play (8th) and the penalty kill (10th). The Rampage meanwhile have struggled with the man advantage, scoring just once in their last 17 chances. The wild card for the shorthanded Rampage will likely be the play of reigning CCM/AHL Goaltender of the Month Calvin Pickard.

The Wolves are led up front by Pat Cannone (5g-5a) and recently demoted Ty Rattie (7 pts in 3 games). On the blue line, former Avs D-man Andre Benoit is a top-notch AHL defenseman and NHL journeyman Chris Butler was recently re-assigned as well.

The Rampage will be missing several key players up front tonight, so the young guys and role players will need to step up against a very dangerous Wolves squad. Ben Street (3g-9a) is still in Colorado with the Avs and both Andrew Agozzino (5g-4a) and Marc Andre Cliche (1g-2a) did not skate this morning and are out tonight.

Notes:

The Rampage travel up to Cedar Park for a big game against the hated Stars tomorrow night, before heading back for a Sunday matinee with these same Wolves. The home schedule has finally hit us in full force. Remember, tonight is dollar beer night. Be nice to each other. Be sure to check back this weekend for Topher’s Analytic breakdown of all three games.
