The San Antonio Rampage snapped a 4 game losing streak on Sunday afternoon, dominating the weary Oklahoma City Barons, winning 3-1. The win followed a tough 3-2 loss at home on Friday night to the visiting Toronto Marlies which saw the Rampage carry play for most of the night.
Dan Ellis got the start in net for both contests and played well, falling just 16 seconds short of his first shutout on Sunday. For the weekend, Ellis stopped 43 of the 47 shots he faced including a momentum swinging stop on a Curtis Hamilton breakaway early in the second period of Sunday’s win.
Team defense was also vastly improved and the Rampage returned to playing systemic team hockey. The forwards did a much better job of tracking back into the play and getting their sticks into passing lanes, limiting both the Marlies and Barons during much of their respective contests.
Andrew Yogan notched his first goal in a Rampage uniform Friday night and Shane O’Brien picked up his third of the season in the losing effort. On Sunday, Bobby Butler struck twice, bookending a Steve Kampfer power play blast, and Garrett Wilson picked up an assist on all three goals.
The Rampage head up I-35 for a “Kids Day Game” on Tuesday morning, before returning home for a two game weekend set with the struggling Charlotte Checkers. Tuesday’s game will faceoff at 10:35am with this weekend’s contests starting at 7:30pm and 7:00pm respectively. All games can be heard on Ticket 760 with award winning voice of the Rampage, Dan Weiss, calling all the action.
