Rampage Blast Stars in Cedar Park

The San Antonio Rampage scored five goals in 6:25 during the second period to win their third straight game overall and second straight in Cedar Park, defeating the Stars 6-2 on Saturday night. The Rampage (4-1-0) now sit comfortably in first place with yet another match up with the Texas looming Sunday afternoon.

Once again, Texas would strike first on a PP tally by Rampage killer Travis Morin 4:50 into the second period. Then, all hell broke loose. Over the next six and a half minutes the Rampage would score five goals, one short handed, on six shots chasing Stars goalie Landon Bow from the game. Dominic Toninato (2) and Andrei Mironov each scored their first as Rampage players and Reid Petryk and Felix Girard scored their first of the season.

The Stars got a goal from Curtis McKenzie in the final moments of the second, but Ville Husso and the Rampage defense would take it from there. Husso stopped all 14 shots he faced in the final frame and Joe Colborne added an empty netter to seal the victory.

The Good

  • For the first time this season, the Rampage got a balanced scoring attack. In fact, the “top line” of Ranford/Agozzino/Grimaldi combined for just 4 SOG and 1 assist (on the empty-netter).
  • Andrei Mironov looks to really be settling in, scoring his first goal and adding an assist on a beautiful stretch pass on Toninato’s SH goal.

The Bad

  • 36 shots allowed is way too many. But having not watched the game live, I’m going to guess a lot of those shots were score effected.
  • The Rampage picked up their third misconduct in two games, all by defenseman, this one by Mason Geertsen.

The Ugly

  • They won 6-2 in Cedar Park, there is no ugly in this game.
  • But if forced, the Avalanche will be calling up at least two players today. With the way this team is playing right now, that can be considered an “ugly”.

The Rampage and Stars wrap up their 3 game set with a Sunday Fun Day game at the ATT Center today at 3pm. The game can be heard on Ticket760 or streamed on AHL Live.
